BENTONVILLE, Ark. – Walmart U.S. comps in the general merchandise area rose in the high single digits, with the strongest performances coming from home, electronics, toys and sporting goods. That partially offset by softer results in back-to-school stationery and apparel categories.

Total sales for Walmart U.S. increased 6.2% to $88.4 billion. Net sales from e-commerce jumped 79%. Full-store comp was up 6.4%, with a 14.2% decline in transactions more than offset by a 24% spike in average ticket.

At Sam’s Club, same-store sales for the home and apparel segment were up in the low double digits, led by kitchen, apparel and toys.

Total club sales climbed 11.6% to $14.6 billion – excluding fuel sales – with comp up 11.1% and e-commerce up 41%.

For Walmart Inc., total company revenue was $134.7 billion, up 5.2%. Excluding currency , total revenue would have increased 6.1% to $135.8 billion.

“This was another strong quarter on the top and bottom line,” said CEO Doug McMillon. “We think these new customer behaviors will largely persist, and we’re well-positioned to serve customers with the value and experience they’re looking for.”
