SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – RTA furniture specialist Walker Edison is recalling nearly 25,000 drawer chests that are unstable if not anchored to the wall, posing a tip-over and entrapment hazard that can be dangerous, particularly for children.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the recall involves about 24,000 of the units sold in the U.S. plus an additional 960 sold in Canada.

While no injuries have been reported, the agency said the units do not comply with the performance requirements of the industry voluntary standard for clothing storage units ASTM F2057-19.

The CPSC has recommended that consumers immediately stop using the recalled units and contact the company for instructions on how to dispose of the product and obtain a full refund or replacement. It also said that Walker Edison will provide packaging and pre-paid shipping labels so customers can remove the chests drawer slides and return them to the company for a full refund or free replacement chest.

The recall involves two Walker Edison drawer chest products that are made of wood and are painted white, gray or that come in a wood stain or are covered in an imitation wood laminate. The drawer chests are not marked, although the following numbers are marked on the boxes: BR3DMILDRDW (840035320847) and BR3DMILDRSG (840035320854). The Spencer four-drawer chests have the following model numbers: BR4DDRCA (842158142443), BR4DDRWH (842158142436), and BR4DDRWT (842158142450).

The units were made in China and Brazil and imported by Walker Edison Furniture Company LLC of Salt Lake City, Utah. They were sold at online at bestbuy.com, pier1.com, amazon.com and other online retailers from August 2018 through March 2020 for between $200 and $300.
