SAN DIEGO – Home office and home entertainment specialist Martin Furniture is donating 1,000 student desks to children in need in both the U.S. and in Mexico.

This started with the company’s donation of 100 desks over the Christmas holiday to the Loma Verde Elementary School in Chula Vista, Calif. After Jan. 1, it also donated an additional hundred desks to orphanages in the Tijuana area of Mexico where its manufacturing facilities are located.

The company said it also plans to provide desks to any employee with school children. The goal, over time is to deliver up to 1,000 desks to children in need.

The idea to donate the desks came about after company founder and former CEO Gil Martin saw an article about a man and his son building a desk for a child in need. Having manufactured tens of thousands of desks and other home office pieces over the years, the company’s plan materialized as Martin saw children continuing to learn at home during the pandemic.

The company is also providing stickers with each desk that will allow each child to personalize their work space with the logos and images of some of their favorite cartoon and TV characters.
